British Army Issued L5A4 Baton Round ( Plastic Bullet )
British Army Issued L5A4 Baton Round ( Plastic Bullet & Cartridge ).
Infamous piece of history relating to the Conflict in Northern Ireland. They were Issued to replace the rubber bullet which had been used since the early 1970's by the British Army and R.U.C. in riot control. The main purpose of the replacement was to try and reduce the amount of fatalities inflicted by the previously Issued baton round, "The Rubber Bullet". as the conflict continued it was found out that this round was more lethal, if used incorrectly than the previously Issued type, it was eventually discontinued after consultation. Sadly 17 people were killed in total from these riot control rounds during the conflict in the North.
This piece was retrieved during disturbances on the Falls Road, Belfast August 9th 1985.
NB; We have a number of these rounds from this period, so colour and wear may vary in slightly from the one shown.
