WWI British Officers Cased Magnapole Series II Compass with Irish Rifles Connection
WWI British Officers Cased Magnapole Series II Compass with Irish Rifles Connection.
Here we have a very clean and well maintained series II Magnapole WWI standard compass as issued to most officers during the Great War. It was only after purchasing the piece that I noticed a faint inscription on the reverse of the case. The piece was bought locally in Northern Ireland, so there was a possibility that it would be used by a local regiment. The inscription reads 14th Batt R.I.R. This was the Young Citizen Volunteers, which was part of the Ulster Volunteer Force formed in 1912. Really interesting part of thiscompasses history, if only it could talk!!!
