Victorian Memento Mori Framed Photo of Dead Child
Victorian Memento Mori Framed Photo of Dead Child.
Rather morbid transition carried out by Victorian society. Due to the high immortality rate during this period it became popular to employ a photographer to photograph your love ones after they had passed on. This was done normally in a formal sitting. The small framed photo is encased in a black painted embossed case with brass hook and eye. The internal contents incorporates a glass plate of the deceased child in a sitting position secured in place with a gilt gold coloured frame. The opposite side of the frame has a padded suede cushion to protect the glass plate when closed. The piece measures 7.5cms x 6.5cms.
