The Carnegie Hero Trust Fund Certificate Awarded to Cst John Greene Royal Irish Constabulary.
Exceptionally rare certificate awarded in recognition of a heroic endeavour to save human life.
The award relates to a incident at Market street in the centre of Belfast 2nd April 1914, which is just located near the iconic Victorian St Georges market. Cst Greene had been called to a house in Market street which was on fire and engulfed in smoke. He proceeded to enter the house on his hands and knees and locate three children who were found on an upper level of the house, successfully saving all the children involved. It later transpired that the children had been playing with matches.
Cst Greene was awarded with a bronze medallion, which sadly is long gone, this certificate and a monetary award. We have included some research papers to help with any further research which you may like to take on in the future. The certificates comes in its original frame and measures 52cms x 40cms.
