Signed Japanese Wakizashi "Short Sword" 1454-1568
This Wakizashi, mounted in a nice shirasaya ( resting scabbard ) is signed Bishu Osafune Sukesada one of a line of famous swordsmiths from The Bizen/Osafune school. There was a long line of Sukesada swordsmiths who where very skill Nihonto makers.
Going on shape and style this blade was made around 1454-1568 which is known as the Sengoku period ( Warring state period ) due to this turbulent time in Japanese history there were 100's of thousands of blades needed , because of this it would be an obvious conclusion that this blade was owned and used by a ranked samurai in battle around this time period and long after its production . It warrants more study but in its present condition , which is in good polish all its characteristics can be seen and enjoyed .
