Named Stirrup Chains Belonging To Captain Cornet Bond of the 12th Lancers.
He was honoured for the saving of the women & children from the ill-fated HMS Birkenhead off the coast of South Africa in 1852, while on the military transport. Capt Bond was one of the very few survivors from the wreck.
The family owned an estate in County Armagh, as well as in England.
