Unique Luftwaffe Radio Operator & Air Gunner Hand Carved Memory Stick.

Exceptionally well executed piece of hand carving dating from 1943 by a member of the Luftwaffe involved in the bombing campaign of England. The stick incorporates a hand carved map of Ireland and the British Isles with the date 1943. Just below this is an Iron Cross First Class 1939 and on the other side an Air Gunners Badge. The crew member was active on 1/KG2 and DO 217 heavy bombers. These details have been carved into the band below the awards. This crew where very active during this time with a list of bombing raids also listed on the stick.

Two thirds down the stick are two Luftwaffe type daggers, ironically just one of the the daggers have not been competed. This may be to his successful missions coming to an end. The piece measures 87cms long. Some of the more detailed carving have lost small pieces and a few letters from the target cities, but this does not detract from this unique and important historical piece
